| Vacation Information For Alabama |
The beaches of Alabama remain a well-kept secret . . . a few white, sandy Gulf of Mexico beaches that line the coast, extending from the Florida state line westward, offering several distinct, unique beach communities to choose from . . .
Gulf Shores: A popular family beach vacation destination, Gulf Shores offers a variety of family activities, including a wide assortment of restaurants and lodging choices, with many attractions for day or night family entertainment, such as the Waterville waterpark, several miniature golf locations; also, theatres, shops, and a wide variety of dining is readily available.
Ft. Morgan: Connected by land to Gulf Shores, but remote enough to provide a different atmosphere altogether . . . this long, coastal peninsula offers more space, privacy and solitude. The bay side of the peninsula offers a protected harbor, while the Gulf of Mexico coastline extends for long miles of squeaky white sandy beaches. At the west end of the peninsula stands Fort Morgan, a well-preserved 19th century fort that protected the mouth of Mobile Bay for well over a century. At the far west end of the peninsula is a ferry to Dauphin Island.
Dauphin Island: The site of the original settlement of French Louisiana, Dauphin Island remains a quaint fishing village on a 7 mile-long barrier Island that is connected to the mainland by the Dauphin Island bridge, and also by a car ferry to Ft. Morgan . . . Home to only about 1500 residents, the Island has managed to avoid over-development, and remains a unique snapshot in time. A two-lane road runs along the beach, and the Island is populated mainly with elevated beach houses, a few shops, restaurants, and a community golf course. Many families make Dauphin Island the site of their annual get-together . . . the beach houses are directly on the beach, and cook-outs are a popular evening event. Attractions on the Island include the Sea Lab Estuarium, Historic Ft. Gaines, and the Audubon Nature Preserve.
