We had a great time!! Weather was a little chilly. Brought my son and 8 of his friends. They had a blast!!! Will be back soon!!!
Our family had a wonderful time! The house is lovely, roomy, well furnished and clean. This development is especially nice because the houses are widely spaced, giving occupants a nice feeling of privacy. The kitchen was well supplied - a great variety of good pots, baking dishes and skillets, plenty of plates and eating utensils. We greatly enjoyed sitting on the screened back porch with an early morning cup of coffee, overlooking the unspoiled dunes. Access to the beach was easy, on foot or in the cart. Four of us brought computers and the wireless internet connection worked well. We'd certainly be happy to rent the Purple Parrot again.
Let me start by saying that this is a beautiful house. It is in a gated sub-division close to the water. It was also a dirty house. Everything from the cooking utensils in the drawers, to the kitchen/living room floors, to the showers in the bathrooms were really dirty. My wife spent $10.00 for cleaning supplies and 2 hours just to remove the mold in the master bathroom shower. We had to mop the floors in the master bath, kitchen, and living room ourselves. This house also suffers from a lack of maintenance. A little TLC will do a world of good. The golf cart was wonderful and was used frequently to go to the beach. The two bicycles that are noted in the house's description were absent. The information from the realtors was spot-on and check-in was easy. I will use DI Beach Rentals again if the opportunity arises but I will not come back to this house.
Our vacation at the Purple Parrot was simply wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay. We received very good directions on how to get here and into the house. Even though we never actually spoke in person with anyone, we felt we had everything we needed and clear instructions were left for us to follow. The house was clean and very comfortable. It was large enough for our two families with 3 children each. We never felt in each other's way. Our children spent many hours at the game room, and also the parents, I must say! Make sure you are up to walking up and down stairs, for there are plenty to be had! Up to the living room, up to the laundry room, up to the game room, down to the rooms, down to the kitchen, down to the car, up again to the main bedroom... you get the idea. The walk to the beach was not long and having the golf cart available was very helpful. We went in February and the beach was practically ours! We enjoyed long walks and the weather was just perfect. We even saw some dolphins playing not far from shore on several ocations. This is a lovely island. Just make sure you bring everything you will need with you. There are several stores in the island where you may find practically anything, but I would not recomend them for meats or fresh foods. Do plan to visit the fort, the pier, the nature trail and the other amenities in the island. We enjoyed them very much. Bring your bikes with you if you enjoy riding! We would definitely come back to the Purple Parrot.
Beautiful location in a quiet gated community. The pool offers a nice break from the beach. Although my kids enjoyed the sand & water, my wife & I found the beach still has spots where there is still oil residue from the BP spill. The water was brown but the waves were great. Next to the community is a golf course and although it is not in good shape, it is a fun course to play. The island shuts down at sunset except for maybe 2 local bars. There is not a "upscale" sit down resturant but who cares, you are here for relaxation. All in all, a nice place to take the family for a beach escape
Nancy, our stay was wonderful the house was fabulous and the beach was great. We saw dolphins on three different occasion, took the ferry, went to the fort it was all great. I would highly recommend the place to all my friend and after they see the wonderful pictures we have to share then will be very jealous. Thanks again for a wonderful time.
Our stay was absoultely wonderful. The house was everything we hoped for and more. Plenty of room, the kitchen had everiything you could want and more. We loved the screended in back porch we ate all our meals out there. Kids loved the game room. The beach was very nice and not crowded. We saw dolphins three days. I cannot say enough about the trip.
We loved the Island and loved the Purple Parrot. We had 3 families and plenty of room. The house is beautiful and has a great layout with plenty of space. I spent a lot of time on the screened porch. This is not a gulf front home although it is an easy walk to the boardwalk and then the beach. The golf cart helped in getting things to and from the boardwalk. There is very little to do on the Island but a relaxing week was what I wanted. Gulf Shores was an easy hour to hour and a half drive away. Overall the experience was wonderful. We will be back to the Island and would rent the purple parrot again.
We stayed last week at the Purple Parrot and had a terrific experience with a few small exceptions. The private beach was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful, and the few people we found on the beach were extremely friendly. We missed the shells, which we were told haven't been there in quantity for the past two years, and we found some areas with more trash than we expected. We did find some fantastic driftwood. The 3,500 square-foot home had tons of living space for entertaining our family. We particularly enjoyed the large open kitchen, tons of windows and two decks, and the game room on the top floor where we could take a break from the heat of the day. The two master bedrooms were also very nice. We were disappointed that the advertised golf cart and four bicycles weren't operational. We would have put those to good use because it was a little hike to the boardwalk with all of our supplies. However, Nancy with Dauphin Island Rentals was very accommodating and tried her best to get the cart fixed and rented two replacement bikes. I advise checking these details out, however, before you book this house. Also, the guys found the golf course to be very disappointing. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Dauphin Island and book through Dauphin Island Beach Rentals because they are very organized and prompt and want ensure your stay pleasant. The island is a great getaway for people who want a quiet and beautiful beach experience.
My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Purple Parrot, there might have been a few problems as with any stay anywhere; however, Nancy and her work staff were very attentive trying to remedy. Having a Beach House get away was the best and the game room on the third floor was awesome! Thank you! Best Regards, Terri M. Berg Louisville, KY
We loved it. The rooms are spacious. The house was very clean. The staff was very helpful. Though not on the beach it was plenty close especially with the handy golf cart. The kids would have liked TV's in their bedrooms but they survived. They really loved the game room whose equipment was all really nice quality stuff.
This was our third time in four years to rent the Purple Parrot. Obviously, our family loves the property and our previous two visits were great. However, this year the golf cart did not work the entire week and none of the four bikes were operable. That left our trek of walking to the beach or to the pool a little more time consuming and with more effort -- not fun with four kids under the age of 13. All in all, the house is great, but does show some wear and tear since our first visit in 2008.
We had three generations at the house and enjoyed our stay there.
We had never been to Alabama and had a nice time. The house was absolutely beautiful. The bikes were not in working order, I think it would be nice to purchase a few new ones. The golf cart was way TO SLOW. I would love to stay in the house yearly but don't think we would ever come back to the island again. Not near enough to do or see. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share our thoughts. The Putnams
Ages 7-69 enjoyed a fun week. Some minor problems with the internet and house but we had a wonderful time. We throughly enjoyed the beach and Daughlin Island. The family took the golf cart all around the area. Lots of walking up and down the beautiful beach. The area was dog friendly. I would be thrilled to go back to the Purple Parrot.
The house was beautiful. At first we were disappointed by the distance from the beach, but recovered from that quickly. We had issues with the internet and the cable/DVD was not working and did not get it until Thursday (we checked in Sunday). There was a roach problem (German roaches), the windows on the second and third floors leaked heavily when the rains came. We put towels down and kept changing them out. The place to put the diswasher detergent would not shut so the dishes had to be ran through twice. We did contact Nancy and she was very nice and helpful. She had the repair guy come out on Thursday and he fixed the cable but said the DVD player was "their" issue and he could not get it to work either. So I would make sure all DVD players work prior to renting movies. She also ordered another router which arrived Thursday and after I hooked it up, the internet worked. She also sent out an exterminator the very next day that I called her. Very sweet person. We did enjoy the house and the beach and just relaxing. Despite these things we would still consider renting the property again. Maybe when it gets a little warmer and there is no prediction of rain. We also wanted to utilize the ferry but the fees were up to $40 per vehicle and then $5 per person. We choose to stay close by and spend that money in the adorable shops such as the Sand Box.
When our family arrived at the Purple Parrot each of us was a bit stressed in our own way...work/school/life was a bit overwhelming. We were only coming from Mobile so this was a different sort of vacation for us. BUT the minute we walked into the Purple Parrot we knew we were in for a good relaxing weekend. The pictures on the internet do not do justice to this beautiful home. From the king sized beds to the claw foot bath tubs to the huge showers to the third floor game room and the large amazing kitchen - it was all perfect! Also the golf cart and the large decks - the quiet community...all put together for a memory making time our family will not quickly forget! We did have a few minor issues - such as the internet service and the microwave not working but they really were minor issues...our time at the Purple Parrot was one of our best vacations ever! Thanks you so much!
We were there in Jan for a long weekend and the house is very spacious with plenty of beds. The upstairs play room was great except that the TV would not work. The kitchen/dining room/living room was huge which made it easy for all of us to get around and eat. Beach access was a good half mile walk but the golf cart made it easier. Tennis court was good. A few small things could have made it great like there were not enough towels. Only 7 towels for a large house meant we had to wash every night. No toliet paper or trash bags which we did not realize until after we went to the store so we had to go back out. Overall though a great large house with plenty of rooms for a large family or two families.
Just returned from a fall weekend at Purple Parrot. The web site pictures do NOT do it justice. The house is very large, comfortable and well appointed. It truly exceeded our expectations! Have never been to Dauphin Island and found it very charming. Nancy from the rental agency was extremely helpful. I would definitely rent this house in the future. Thank you for a delightful stay!
This rental was ideal for my family just don't go in August because as we found out after we arrived the jellyfish are abundant at that time of the year, as a matter of fact, my grandson was stung by one. Thank goodness for the game room on the third floor and the swimming pool because no one wanted to go back in the beach water. There were some issues with the house as the ice maker and disposal in the kitchen did not work and there was a leak under the kitchen sink. However, these problems were addressed as soon as we reported them to management. The grill was so corroded there was flame coming out of only one element and made it difficult to grill and we had to replace the gas tank in order to use it one time so we left a full tank and was out $22.00. This was not fixed after reported. All in all it was a great vacation, a beautiful and comfortable rental and the time spend in this lovely town with my family was priceless.
Purple Parrot In a word awsome.....11 of us stayed here for 10 days while we trained with the City of Mobile Police Department Motorcycle Unit Mardi Gras training. Although the drive back to town each day was a little long it was a way to relax and unwind. The house was great thanks for everything. John Hankins
Very nice place! Everything that I thought it would be. If they fix the gate coming into the community, there is nothing else negative to say. The house was awesome. This would be a great set-up for a big family or a couple of families. Bring your groceries!!!! or plan on traveling back across the bridge. Not much on the island (grocery stores or restaurants)... especially in the off season.
Very nice place. We had a wonderful time and had plenty of room. Lots of extra's for the young. I would recommend and hope to stay again.
